“It’s been a long windy path full of challenges, but taking that step to your next stepping stone is one of the best feelings out there.”

Tess is a student from Vancouver, Canada who will be moving to San Francisco this fall to attend The San Francisco Ballet School! She first started dancing around the age of 3 because her mom owned a dance studio. Tess didn’t last long in ballet class and quit when she was four because “someone budged in the line.” As she got older she came back to dancing but mostly took Jazz and Acro classes. For awhile Tess wanted to join Cirque du Soleil! At around 13 she started to develop a huge love for all things ballet and never looked back.

When Tess first started pointe work she would get blisters, corns, bruises, and never felt fully confident and comfortable on pointe. She would try different pointe shoe brands almost every month because of how uncomfortable every shoe was on her foot. After Tess tried PerfectFit in 2017 she was amazed at how quickly her dancing improved. “I could not believe that the shoes that once caused me so much pain were now so comfortable!! The idea is genius! "

When we asked Tess to describe her dance journey in the form of a metaphor, she said that “it’s been like a long, windy path full of challenges, but taking that step to your next stepping stone is one of the best feelings out there.” She thinks it’s important to share more messages about dancers being on their own journey and not comparing yourself to others (especially on social media). “Something I try to encourage on my Instagram page to not be afraid to be yourself because that is what gets you far in the dance world from my personal experience."
